The Geelong Manufacturing Council is very pleased to be advised of the Australian Government’s positive announcement on September 3 that the Request for Tender to build and maintain 30 self-propelled howitzers and 15 armoured ammunition resupply vehicles and their supporting systems, has been released to preferred supplier Hanwha Defence Australia.
As previously advised, GMC with the Geelong Defence Alliance has been working closely with Hanwha and other key stakeholders to gain a commitment to base the manufacturing of these vehicles in Geelong.
GMC and ENG have worked on securing this for Geelong over the past 2 years & we will be keen to see opportunities for members to participate in the supply chain. It is expected 350 local jobs in Geelong’s manufacturing sector will be created over the next 10 years.
Geelong’s manufacturing and engineering capabilities are second to none in Australia. We are up to the challenge of becoming a key supply chain partner in major manufacturing projects.
