IXL star apprentice named foundry achiever of the year

December 17, 2024

Congratulations to Lachie Rollo from IXL Metal Castings for winning the Bill Pratt Award as the Australian Foundry Institute’s (AFI) Victoria – Achiever of the Year 2024.

Lachie received the honour at AFI’s AGM earlier this year.

After nearly three years an apprentice moulder at IXL, Lachie is thrilled to have a career in the metals industry.  He says the best part about the job is constantly learning and getting to use his hands and mind to create things.

Lachie’s taste for metal work started as a student while in Newcomb Secondary College’s successful P-Tech program, a fantastic initiative which links students to industry and work placement programs.

General Manager of IXL Metal Castings, Sean Boswell said the team was proud of Lachie’s achievements and the way he’s contributed to a culture of pride in being an IXL foundry person, embracing the organisation’s values of Safety, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect, Innovation and Excellence.

IXL Metal Castings Apprenticeship program provides formal Certificate III trade qualifications in Engineering – casting and moulding as well as mechanical fitting.

The team is hosting a career and apprentice day in March 2025.
