The GMC Commercial Managers group was treated to a fantastic presentation and tour from our member Cobram Estate.
We heard from joint-CEO Leandro Ravetti about how the business has expanded over the last 20 years to become Australia’s market leader, capturing around 85% of the Australian olive oil market.
They have operations in Australia and the US, and export to 13 countries, including Japan, UK, Singapore and NZ.
In the last 10 years, their US operations have seen significant growth which has resulted in them being the number eight selling olive oil in US supermarkets and number two brand of olive oil in California.
The company’s vertically integrated model includes strategically located freehold land ownership supporting the full suite of nursery operations, olive groves, olive mill, bottling operations and storage.
They now have around 2.6 million olive trees planted over 7000 hectares – across sites at Boundary Bend, Boort, and Wemen, which supply brands Cobram Estate, red Island, as well as private labels.
Cobram Estate has also led the way in maximising yield from production, currently producing around 2700 litres of olive oil per hectare – well above the world average of 300 litres per hectare.
