Matt Nussio has extensive industry and academic experience, with a track record in the establishment and delivery of major industry-university partnerships.
Matt is currently the Director, Commercial Initiatives and Enterprise Partnerships in the Office of Strategic Partnerships, Deakin University. Before joining the Strategic Partnerships team, Matt was Director, Commercial Research, Innovation & Sustainability in the Research Business Engagement and Impact division. In that Deakin Research role, he drove the university’s industry engagement for research and innovation.
Prior to joining Deakin University, Matt represented the leadership team for Monash University’s largest industry-university partnership with Woodside Energy, a partnership to accelerate the development and deployment of sustainable energy technologies. While at Monash, Matt was also a founding industry advisory member and then Chair of the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, an initiative to support Victoria’s pharmaceutical sector competitiveness; established Monash Food Innovation (earlier known as the Food Innovation Centre) with Mondelez International and was key to the development of major centres in industrial transformation, including a major initiative in carbon utilisation and recycling.
Throughout his career, Matt has held strategic roles at KPMG, PerkinElmer, and GE Healthcare Life Sciences (now Cytiva). During his time in GE Healthcare Life Sciences, Matt worked both in Australia and abroad in the US, where he was based in Massachusetts; one of the largest biotechnology hubs in the world.
Matt holds a PhD in Nanotechnology from Flinders University and an Executive MBA from Monash University and has completed international business modules at INSEAD, CIEBS, and NYU Stern School of Business.
